What Is BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX® is an injectable product that’s FDA approved to reduce the signs of certain lines and wrinkles on the face. Although it was approved for cosmetic use in 2002, the active ingredient in BOTOX®—a purified protein—has been trusted by the medical community for many years and in many different capacities. Because this protein blocks nerve signals from the brain to affected muscles, it is especially effective in smoothing wrinkles caused by movement, such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and the vertical lines that form between your eyebrows.

Rather than physically adding volume to wrinkles the way injectable fillers do, BOTOX® prevents you from making the expressions that cause these wrinkles in the first place. When injected by trained professionals, BOTOX ®smooths your complexion without interfering with your ability to make facial expressions. This type of injectable treatment has been successfully used for years to treat some of the most common age-related concerns of women and men alike.

Keep in mind that it does take some time for BOTOX® results to develop — typically about a week – but they can last between three and six months, depending on your own unique physiology and where on your face you had injections.

What Is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is an injectable botulinum toxin that is FDA approved for cosmetic treatment of glabellar lines (a.k.a. frown lines). Dubbed as the “NEWTOX”, this alternative to BOTOX® achieves very similar results: wrinkles are greatly diminished and patients enjoy a better refreshed appearance for 3 to 4 months.

Jeuveau injections for frown lines are just like any BOTOX®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® treatment for the same purpose. After reviewing your goals and numbing the area with ice, Dr. Lui, MD will inject small amounts of Jeuveau into the specific muscles above the eyes that are responsible for frown lines. Treatment takes about 10 to 15 minutes total.

Effects are visible within the first five days for most patients, with final results appearing within two weeks after treatment. If you are planning treatment in preparation for a special event, Dr. Lui recommends scheduling your Jeuveau® (or any neurotoxin) session at least one to two weeks in advance.

Results of Jeuveau® typically last three to four months before fading. Scheduling follow-up treatments in this time window or as necessary can help you maintain your results.
